The 2009 SCNCA Junior Camp Sets the Gold Standard

I rolled into San Dimas, Southern California Thursday afternoon in time to unpack the bike, find some mexican food and get some coffee for the next morning. I was in bed just before 8:00 PM doing a final check of mail when the 5.4 magnitude earthquake rattled my peaceful hotel room. I wasn’t alarmed, I took it as a positive sign of things to come.

On Friday, the marine layer finally burnt off for a spectacular afternoon spent on the bike doing a pre-ride on the Skills and TT courses. That evening was the traditional camp staff meeting with Dominic Galenti and Katie where we discussed details over dinner. This is where I find out there are 45 participants for the camp. 2009 USAC Camp Manager’s Meeting Notes

USA Cycling’s Junior Endurance Program Manager, BENJAMIN SHARP hosted 15 of us USAC Camp Managers January 30-31, 2009 in Colorado Springs, CO. All enjoyed the weekend, gathering minds, sharing information and continued commitment towards refining the Junior Development process. We introduced three new Managers ( Larry Nolan, Lowell Kellog, Jim ) to the group, they will be valuable and dedicated additions to the group and the USAC Junior Program. Read this news story

USA Cycling Camp Manager’s Annual Meeting

The USA Cycling Camp Manager’s meeting is scheduled for January 30-February 1, 2009. We’re still trying to determine the location… I think most of us are hoping for Phoenix again. The USA Cycling Junior Endurance Program Manager, Benjamin Sharp will sit down with 14 Regional Development Camp Managers to review the 2008 cycling season programs, camps, races and athlete data. In the past, this meeting of minds has been a very successful opportunity to share info, leading to standardized agenda being induced into the Regional Camp Model. The 08 USAC Camps saw some 350 riders attending. Both (Lubbock and Flagstaff) Regional camps that I coached at produced Junior National Champions. Read this news story

The 3rd Annual SCNCA Junior Road Camp

As the 08 cycling season winds down Athletes, Coaches, Directors, Team Owners and Promoters analyze the passing year. The training data and racing experiences will be contributing to the development of the up coming 2009 cycling season training and race goals. The 09 SCNCA Junior Road Camp will kick off the new cycling season in beautiful San Dimas, California, January 10-11. Read this news story

SCNCA 1st Annual Junior Development Camp a Success

01/17/07 – The Southern California and Nevada Cycling Association held it’s first annual Junior Development Camp in San Dimas, CA. the weekend of January 13 and 14. Six Junior Women and nineteen Junior Men from throughout the region enjoyed two full days of cycling education both on and off the bike. SCNCA Board of Trustees member Dominic Galenti and his group of volunteer’s hard work paid off with the organizing and running of this event. Coach Michael W. Heitz (Owner of VeloHeitz.com) did an outstanding job of teaching and motivating the Juniors. 2006 National Time Trial Champion, Betsy Galenti rode and assisted with the Junior riders, as well as giving valuable insight and information about the World of Women’s racing to the Junior Women in attendance. One of the many highlights of the weekend was Sunday’s Group ride and sprint drills with Discovery Team member Tony Cruz around Puddingstone Reservoir and Bonelli Park.
